All properties in England, Wales and Scotland are to be revalued from 1st April 2017 when new rateable values used to calculate business rates liabilities will come into force. There will be the right to challenge these rateable values with effect from 1st April 2017. A new system of challenge is to be introduced known as ‘Check, Challenge, Appeal’. The full details of the process are still to be determined by the government and it is more important than ever to seek advice from professional rating advisors to help you through the process.
The 2017 revaluation may seem like a long time away but draft rateable values are to be published at the end of September when there will the opportunity to consider the valuation applied to your property.
